Logo and Expo Deadlines:
• To ensure logos are included on signage, print media, T-Shirts, and the Sponsor Wall at the event donations and logos must be received no later than February 9th, 2019.
• The last day to reserve a spot at the Expo is April 12th, 2019.
• Exceptions to these criteria and dates are at the discretion of the Race Director
Discounted and Complimentary Registration Fees:
• Event sponsors will have received a certain amount of free registrations (amount dependent on sponsor level).
• Other individuals or groups at the discretion of the Race Director may be offered free registrations through additional alphanumeric discount codes when unique circumstances arise.
• Children 10 and under who register for the 5K will also be allowed to run in the 1K or ½ K Kids Fun Run at no extra charge.
Free Registration for PTA Unit School Site Leadership, Teachers and Staff:
Leadership, teachers and staff at each El Segundo Unified School District School Site, with a PTA Unit (ESHS, ESMS, RSS, and CSS) will be offered free registration through a special registration code provided to the PTA Unit President and Principal. This code is to be used only by the school site employee and not their friends or family.
Packet Pick-Up/In-Person Registration:
Early packet pick-up and in-person registration available Thursday, April 25, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, April 26, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at El Segundo Athletic Club, 505 Main St. El Segundo, CA 90245, +1-310-335-1456. Race day packet pick-up and in-person registration will also be available on-site at the Run starting at 6:30 AM and ending at 7:30 AM. Race packets will include a quality unisex t-shirt and race bib with timing chip.

About the El Segundo Run for Education:
The El Segundo Council of PTAs, in partnership with Big 5 Sporting Goods, is proud to present the 28th annual El Segundo Run for Education benefiting El Segundo Public Schools.
5K and 10K Course Description:
As one of the more unique courses in Southern California, the Run for Education features a moderate coastal climate and a tour of El Segundo neighborhoods and schools. The 5K Run/Walk is an easy-to-moderate hill course through local neighborhoods while the 10K Run offers up a 2nd loop with a slight modification.
Kids Fun Run Description:
This untimed run, geared for children 2-10 years old, will have two race distances based on age or ability. The 1/2K Kids Run (2-5 years old) will start at the corner of Main St and Mariposa Ave south of Library Park and then run west on Mariposa Ave, turn right on Richmond St, turn right on Palm Ave, then right on Main Street—essentially one lap around Library Park. The 1K Kids Run (6-10 years old) is two loops of the same course. Each runner will receive an official race shirt & bib, and finishers’ medal (while supplies last). Children 10 and under who compete in the 5K may also compete in the Kids Run at no additional cost, however, they will not receive s second Kids Run finishers medal. Although this race is intended for kids, parents are welcome to run with their children (no additional registration is needed by the parent).
Event Sanctioning, Race Course Certification and Competition Series:
We are proud to announce that the El Segundo Run for Education is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event (Sanction Number: 19-33-003) with both the 5K and 10K courses having been certified by the USA Track and Field Road Racing Technical Council (Certification Codes CA11024RS and CA12117RS).
2018 USATF SCA Road Running Grand Prix Event:
The El Segundo Run for Education 5K and 10K have been selected by the USA Track and Field (USATF) Southern California Association (SCA) as 2019 Road Running Grand Prix Series events. The Series offers opportunities for USATF members to compete in some of the best road races in the region. USATF members entering their membership number during the registration process will receive a $5 registration discount. Richmond vs. Center Street Elementary School Competition:
The times of the fastest four boy and girl student runners from Richmond and Center Street Elementary Schools, respectively, will be summed to determine the winner of the two competitions with the lowest combined time winning. The winners of boy and girl team competition will be announced a few days after the run, possibly at a school assembly. The top four boy and girl runners will each receive a small trophy. Richmond and Center Street students DO NOT need to register to be on a team to enter this competition. They only need to indicate what school they attend when registering as a part of the regular registration process.
El Segundo Unified School District School Site Student Participation Competition:
The El Segundo Unified School District School Site, with a PTA Unit (ESHS, ESMS, RSS, and CSS), that achieves the highest registration rate (student’s registered/total # of students at the site) will receive a traveling plaque. The results of this competition will be announced a few days after the run, possibly at a school assembly. Students DO NOT need to register to be on a team to enter this competition. They only need to indicate what school they attend when registering as a part of the regular registration process.
El Segundo Unified School District School Site Leadership, Teacher and Staff Competition:
The El Segundo Unified School District School Site, with a PTA Unit (ESHS, ESMS, RSS, and CSS), that achieves the highest percentage of leadership, teachers and staff that complete the race (leadership, teachers, and staff that complete the race/total # of leadership, teachers and staff at the site) will receive a traveling plaque. The results of this competition will be announced a few days after the run, possibly at a school assembly. Leadership, teachers and staff DO NOT need to register to be on a team to enter this competition. They only need to indicate what school site they are associated with when registering as a part of the regular registration process.
To provide participants with as comfortable and competitive a run as possible, the event will use starting corrals. Large signs identifying each corral will be displayed in the starting line area. Please be courteous and look for the corral that fits you best.
Corral A: Elite Runners (Male <18:20 5K or <38:00 10K and Females <19:50 5K or <40:00 10K) Corral B: General Runners Corral C: General Walkers Corral D: Walkers with Strollers Participants should assemble for the race in their appropriate corral not less than 10 minutes prior to the start of the race. Course Safety: Race officials reserve the right to disqualify or remove any participant whose activity may be unsafe and post potential harm to themselves and/or other participants. For the safety of all, as well as, insurance reasons the following are PROHIBITED by participants for use on the race course: skates, roller shoes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards and any gas or electrical operated vehicles. Additionally, pets will NOT BE ALLOWED in either the 5K or 10K due to insurance restrictions. NO DOGS, PLEASE. A first aid station and portable restrooms are available at the finish line. Participants in the 5K opting to bring baby strollers, wagons, etc. are asked to please line up near the rear of the starting line corrals. Strollers, wagons, etc. are allowed in the 5K ONLY. For timing and permit reasons the 10K is a RUN ONLY event. Walkers are NOT PERMITTED. Failure to abide by any of these rules can result in disqualification and removal from the Run. Timing, Splits and Mile Markers: Professional timing will be provided by Pacific Coast Timing using a bib chip timing system through Chronotrack. Each participant will receive an official (gun) time which is recorded from the start of the race, signaled by the air horn, to the point where the participant crosses the finish line AND a net or “chip time” via the electronic timing system that measures the elapsed time from when the participant crosses the starting line to the point where the participant crosses the finish line. Per USATF rules, only the official (gun) times qualify for course records. Electronic splits will be recorded at the 10K half-way point near the 5K finish clock. The courses will include mile markers with clocks and/or split callers at the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-mile points as well as the finish line. Water Stations: Stations are located both at the finish line and at the midway point by Center Street Elementary Time Limits/Course Closure: The race course is opened to traffic on a rolling schedule. Participants are given 1 hour 45 minutes to complete the courses with the finish line closing promptly at 9:45. Race Results: Results will be available immediately on-site, then also later in the day via the official race website as well as the Chronotrack site and app. Results will be formally reported to USA Track and Field as official records. Awards: 5K/10K: Male and Female - Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers will receive race trophies in addition to their individual age category medals. Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers in each age category. 5K Age Categories: 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17, 18-23, 24-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ 10K Age Categories: 12 & under, 13-17, 18-23, 24-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ Finisher Medals: All 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run participants will receive a finisher medal. Driving Directions & Parking Information: As one of the South Bay Beach Cities, El Segundo is located between LAX airport and Manhattan Beach. Adjacent freeways are the 105 to the North and 405 to the East. Event staging area and Health & Fitness Expo are at Library Park across the street from El Segundo High School, 640 Main Street, El Segundo. Parking is available on local streets and at designated lots. Parking is free.
